The purpose of this study is to provide a model to explain adolescents' academic achievement based on inhibition strategies and cognitive appraisal mediated by adolescent practical, behavioral, cognitive and emotional academic involvement. The research method was descriptive-correlation. The statistical population was the first-year high school students in Shiraz in the academic year of 2018-2019. 389 eighth and ninth grade students (232 girls and 197 boys) were selected using random cluster sampling and answered Gross (ERQ) Emotion Regulation Questionnaire and academic engagement Rio (AES). For data analysis, path analysis method and Amos24 software were used. The results showed that the emotion regulation strategy of cognitive reassessment affects academic achievement both directly and indirectly through emotional and behavioral engagement. The inhibitory emotion regulation strategy was a negative and significant predictor of practical engagement. Also, cognitive appraisal strategy was a positive and significant predictor of practical, behavioral, cognitive, emotional as well as academic achievement. Among the components of academic engagement, only behavioral and emotional engagements were positive and significant predictors of academic achievement. With emotion management training emphasizing the strategy of cognitive reassessment to adolescents, effective steps can be taken to promote emotional and behavioral academic engagement and ultimately adolescent academic achievement.
