Published in 2022 by Editions du Makri, Mes poemes confines is the title of a long poem by Pascal Assoa N'guessan. In his work, the disillusioned poet paints a bleak picture of a modern african society in full decay, while at the same time lamenting the values of the past that are now being trampled underfoot. This dual feeling of anger and nostalgia is made intelligible by the dominant figure of repetition, which imbues the poetic text with a singular lyricism. Repetition, as it manifests itself in the poet's work, gives rise to a profitable stylistic analysis. Stylistic analysis is defined as a theory and method of analysis that aims to decipher and interpret the linguistic resources employed by an author in his text (Molinie, 1986).
In Mes poemes confines, repetition is a figure that can be understood from two perspectives that reflect the outpouring of the poet's personal feelings (Rabate, 2001), namely the repetition of the same signifier and the reduction of the syntactic masses of the verses.
Stylistic analysis has shown that the repetition of the signifier relies on anaphora and anadiplosis to express nostalgia. In this case, repetition hammers home the obsessive desire to return to the past. As for the reduction of syntactic masses in verse, this is achieved through hypozeus and chiasmus. These figures express disenchantment. The poet feels like a foreigner in his own country.
The point of this contribution was to show how the lyric subject exploits the power of iterative structures to express his disenchantment with the lies and perfidy of society.
